The Customer
The Ministry of Tourism is the Uruguayan government's secretariat responsible for defining, designing, promoting, executing, supervising and evaluating national public policies related to tourism. With revenues exceeding USD 1.8 billion (approximately 8% of GDP), tourism is the country's main source of foreign exchange, surpassing even the traditional export sectors.
In addition, the tourism industry generates approximately 110,000 jobs. Uruguay, in terms of tourists received versus its population, ranks first in South America for this type of activity.
The Process
For the development of the solution, it was proposed to follow a path that began with a Product Discovery service in which the working hypothesis was previously validated with the Ministry of Tourism. As mentioned in other sections, the application of Product Discovery is an iterative process that helps to measure whether a product or service is really solving the problem it is intended to solve, where the client's concept is designed, validated and tested before carrying out the software development, for which we identified four stages:
a) Research & Analyze,
b) Wireframe & Sketch,
c) Design,
d) Construction of the product backlog.
After the execution of the aforementioned tasks, the architecture of the solution was presented with the different components that were contemplated for the assembly of the web page. All the activities that followed were framed within methodological considerations such as the environments to be handled, data storage, security, project management, UI / UX, etc. The key was the teamwork as a single one, formed by the professionals appointed by the Ministry of Tourism and GlobalUY.
The Result
A website developed in WordPress with custom widgets.
The result of all the activities carried out was a custom-tailored website that meets the Ministry's needs, offering possibilities beyond the limits of WordPress, with a CMS setup for easy content upload and maintenance by the Ministry.
Additionally, the analysis and design work allowed for structuring the site in a way that ensures scalability and flexibility in the incorporation of new functionalities.
